ABELL, Richard (c.1688-aft. Mar. 1744), of East Claydon, Bucks.

Abell was descended from William Abell, who acquired the manor of East Claydon in 1624. His father was related to the Viscounts Fermanagh of Middle Claydon, to whom he sold East Claydon in 1728, retaining apparently a life interest.Ibid. passim; VCH Bucks. iv. 30; Lipscomb, Bucks. i. 164. Returned on the Wharton interest as a Whig for Richmond at a by-election in 1720, Abell transferred to Aylesbury in 1722. At the election for Buckinghamshire that year he supported the Whig and Tory candidates put up on a compromise.Bucks. Poll Bk. 1722, p.5. In 1733 he was listed as a supporter of government candidates throughout the countyCholmondeley (Houghton) mss 68. for the election of 1734, at which he did not stand. He was living in March 1744;PCC 60 Anstis. the date of his death has not been ascertained.
