Lord George Beauclerk was an active professional soldier, who did a tour of duty in Gibraltar, c.1749-51,James, Hist. Straits of Gibraltar, ii. 317. and was normally resident in Scotland during his long term as commander-in-chief there.Cal. Home Office Pprs. 1760-5, passim. Brought in on his family’s interest at Windsor on the death of his elder brother Lord Sidney, he voted with the Administration. Classed in 1746 as an Old Whig, he shared with his brother, Lord Henry, a pension of £800 on the Irish establishment. He died 11 May 1768.
