BENTINCK, Lord George (1715-59), of Hall Place, Heston, Mdx.

Bentinck did not stand at the 1741 general election - the first after his coming of age - but at the end of the year he was simultaneously offered a seat at Droitwich vacated by Thomas Winnington and invited by the Government to contest the Westminster by-election.Mrs. Delany, Autobiog. and Corresp. ii. 183-4. On the advice of his family he chose Droitwich, for which he was returned unopposed, voting regularly with the Government. Brought in by the Administration for Grampound in 1747, he applied in 1750 to Newcastle for a colonelcy, ‘as I have always served his Majesty with cheerfulness’.14 Aug. 1750, Add. 32722, f. 147.

He died 1 Mar. 1759.
