BERTIE, Peregrine (?1723-86), of Low Leyton, Essex.

Peregrine Bertie’s grandfather was 2nd cousin to the 3rd Earl of Lindsey and the 1st Earl of Abingdon.Lincs. Peds. (Harl. Soc. 1), i. 129. On the death of Matthew Michell, a government supporter, Bertie was brought in as a Tory for Westbury in 1753 by the 3rd Earl of Abingdon, probably on a compromise with Chauncy Townsend.

He died 28 Dec. 1786.
