BROKE, Philip (1702-62), of Broke Hall, Suff.

Broke was descended from Sir Robert Broke (d. 1529), chief baron of the Exchequer, who built the family seat at Nacton, near Ipswich.Copinger, Suff. Manors. iii. 68. Returned as a Tory after a contest at a by-election, he spoke against the Hessians on 4 Feb. 1730,Winnington to Fox, Feb. [1730], Fox mss. voted consistently against the Government, but did not stand again. He died 21 Sept. 1762.
