Burton, whose father had bought Ashwell in 1690, purchased North Luffenham from the 4th Earl of Gainsborough in 1729.VCH Rutland, ii. 109, 199. Successful for Rutland as a Whig at a by-election in 1730, he seconded the Address on 21 Jan. 1731,HMC Carlisle, 80. and on 16 Mar. 1732 supported a motion that a qualification in the public funds might be as valid as a landed qualification.HMC Egmont Diary, i. 240. He did not stand in 1734. Three years later, Walpole gave him a place on the excise board, which he held until ill-health forced him to retire in 1776. He died 30 Jan. 1781.Gent. Mag. 1781, p. 94.
