John Codrington, who came of an old Gloucestershire family, acquired a number of Somerset manors, including Wraxall, by his second marriage in 1709.Bristol & Glos. Arch. Soc. Trans. xxi, 330-1. Next year he was returned as a Tory for Bath, which he represented uninterruptedly till 1727, voting against the Government. Defeated in 1727, he regained his seat in 1734, voting against the Spanish convention, 1739. He lost his seat in 1741, did not stand again, and died 17 Apr. 1754.
