D’AETH, Thomas (1670-1745), of Knowlton and North Cray, Kent.

D’Aeth came of a Flemish family settled at Dartford since the sixteenth century. Described at the time of his first marriage as a merchant of St. Dionis, Backchurch,Par. reg. he inherited Knowlton on the death of his wife’s brother, Sir John Narborough, in 1707. Returned as a Whig for Sandwich in 1715, he voted for the septennial bill in 1716, but was absent from the repeal of the Occasional Conformity and Schism Acts, and voted against the peerage bill in 1719, on which he was classed as to be approached for the Government by Lords Romney and Coventry. In Sunderland’s plan for the 1722 Parliament, c. October 1721, he was to be replaced at Sandwich by Josiah Burchett. Retiring on the death of his first wife,Burchett to Sandwich corpn. 9 Oct. 1721, Add. 35512, f. 212. he died 4 Jan. 1745.
