The ‘great confident’ and correspondent of Hearne, the Oxford antiquary, Gwyn devoted much of his time to antiquarian matters, including the collection of material for a history of Devonshire.HMC Portland, vii. 234; Hearne, Colls. (Oxf. Hist. Soc.), vi. 95; ix. 360 and passim. He succeeded his father as a Tory at Christchurch in 1724, and again at Wells in 1727, but was unseated on petition two years later. He died c.
