HOLTE, Sir Lister, 5th Bt. (1720-70), of Aston, Warws.

Descended from an ancient and royalist Warwickshire family, Holte inherited an estate of ‘not less than £4,000 per annum’. On coming of age he stood as a Tory for Lichfield, where he had cultivated an interest by purchasing the market tolls for £400 for the benefit of the city and contributing £100 to a new market house.A. Davidson, Holtes of Aston, 42-43. Returned unopposed, he consistently voted against the Government. In 1747 he was defeated, subsequently leading a Birmingham contingent to the Tory demonstration at Lichfield races.Staffs. Parl Hist. (Wm. Salt Arch. Soc.), ii (2), p. 253. He never stood again, dying 8 Apr. 1770.
