HONYWOOD, Robert (d.1735), of Markshall, Essex.

Descended from Sir Robert Honywood of Charing, who purchased Markshall in 1605, Honywood and his younger brother Philip, the general, who was deprived of his regiment in 1710 for drinking ‘damnation and confusion’ to the Harley ministry,Dalton, English Army Lists, iv. 30. were strong Whigs. Defeated at the general election of 1715, he was unsuccessful at a by-election in May 1715 but was seated on petition a year later. He voted against the Government on Lord Cadogan in 1717, with them on the repeal of the Occasional Conformity and Schism Acts but against them on the peerage bill in 1719. He did not stand in 1727, dying in January 1735.
