Hopkins, a Turkey merchant,Pol. State, xxviii. 526-7. stood as a Whig in the fiercely contested sheriffs’ election of 1723.A. J. Henderson, London and the National Government, 84-93. Returned for London at a by-election in 1724, he was unsuccessful in 1727. He died 2 Jan. 1736, the senior alderman below the chair, said to be worth £100,000.Hist. Reg. 1736, chron. p. 13.
