JENKINSON, Sir Robert Bankes, 4th Bt. (1687-1738), of Walcot, Oxon. and Hawkesbury, Glos.

The grandson of Sir John Bankes of Corfe Castle and Kingston Lacy, Dorset, chief justice of the common pleas, Jenkinson succeeded his brother for Oxfordshire, voting as a Tory, against the Administration. He was put up unsuccessfully by the 2nd Earl of Abingdon for the recordership of Oxford in 1721,HMC Portland, vii. 293. in which year his name was sent to the Pretender as a probable supporter in the event of a rising.Stuart mss 65/16. Returned unopposed in 1722 he did not stand in 1727. He died 2 July 1738 at Oxford, ‘of a consumption’.Hist. Reg. 1738, chron. p. 27.
