MEYRICK, Owen (1682-1759), of Bodorgan, Anglesey.

One of the largest Anglesey landowners, Meyrick was a Whig and the leader of the opposition to the influence of the Bulkeley family in the county.See under ANGLESEY. After unsuccessfully contesting the county seat in 1708 and 1710, he was returned for it without opposition in 1715 under an agreement with Lord Bulkeley, steadily supporting the Government. In a list of payments made by Lord Sunderland c.1721, Meyrick is shown as sharing £300 with Stephen Parry.Sunderland (Blenheim) mss D.II, 4. He lost his seat in 1722, never standing again, but continued to organize the opposition to the Bulkeley family, putting up first his nephew and then his son for the county, without success in his own lifetime.

He died 8 Apr. 1759.
