LENNARD, Sir Henry (1570-1616), of Chevening, Kent and Hurstmonceaux Castle, Suss.

Lennard’s father unsuccessfully claimed the barony of Dacre, which Lennard himself eventually inherited from his mother. He made a good marriage while still at Lincoln’s Inn, fought at Cadiz with the 2nd Earl of Essex and received a knighthood. He probably obtained his seat at West Looe through his father’s friend, Sir Robert Cecil. Like his father, he lived extravagantly and was forced to sell estates.

He died intestate 8 Aug. 1616 of an ‘ague’ and was buried at Chevening, to be succeeded by his first son, Richard.CP, iv. 11-12; T. L. Barrett, Hist. Lennard and Barrett Fams. 218-50; CSP Dom. 1611-18, p. 391.
